The Kortrijk-based architecture firm BGAV, short for Bureau Godderis Architecten, designs residential living spaces that are deeply rooted in the city or environment in which they are built or renovated. Their philosophy is based on the belief that their creations should remain relevant for years to come, embracing the evolving urban dynamic. In the long run, this allows the spaces to be repurposed in new and meaningful ways. This vision translates into a minimalist style with refined details and durable materials—an approach that we at Extremis not only share but also deeply appreciate!
A vision of timeless living
In collaboration with interior architect Pedro Verhue, BGAV renovated an industrial, single-story building that, due to urbanization, is now surrounded by a residential neighborhood near Kortrijk’s train station. The living areas and the newly designed pool house are oriented towards a central swimming pool, creating a sleek and expansive courtyard where Extremis products blend in seamlessly. Both the Kosmos and Hopper reinforce the Mediterranean ambiance evoked by the white-painted walls and warm wooden cladding.
Simplicity and (multi)functionality
Hopper, the iconic picnic table, offers a welcoming space for family and a handful of guests, who can easily slide in via the four open entry points at the ends of the benches. This sheltered area, seamlessly connected to the pool house, provides a comfortable retreat for much of the year. Here, the living space effortlessly extends into an oasis of water and greenery.
By the pool, conventional individual loungers are nowhere to be seen. Instead, the Kosmos takes center stage—a round sofa and the ultimate poolside “Tool For Togetherness.” With an adjustable tabletop and additional cushions, it easily transforms into a king-size daybed. This multifunctional lounger also features a patented, horizontally closing parasol for optimal comfort. The hydream cushions ensure that, even after a refreshing dip, you can immediately sink into this royal lounge for a luxurious afternoon nap. And when evening falls, the Kosmos lounger welcomes up to nine guests for a glass of Burgundy bubbles and a table filled with refined fingerfood!
