A Japanese rock garden at Orgatec 2026

Four days in Cologne. Two world premieres. And a Japanese rock garden in the middle of a furniture fair. Most visitors stopped with the same question: what exactly is going on here? If you missed it, you can view and read it here!

Borrowed from Kyoto

The rock garden of the Ryoan-ji temple in Kyoto is about five centuries old. Fifteen stones sit in a rectangle of white gravel that is raked every morning, and from wherever you stand, at least one of them stays out of sight. We rebuilt it in hall 6 in Cologne.

An odd choice for a fair about workplaces, we know. That is exactly why we did it.

And when we throw ourselves into something, we go all the way. The whole team wore the samue, the work jacket of the monks who tend a garden like that, so you knew straight away who to approach. And yes, now and then we really did rake the Moooi Carpets rug.

Keiseki

The world never stands still. Keiseki does.

Closed, it looks like a smooth stone, no bigger than a large planter. One move and it folds open into a padded swivel chair with a hood and a fold-out table top. It turns freely on its base, so you choose your own view, your own sun, your own company.

A one-seater, but never an island. Put two side by side and they turn toward each other.

At the fair it went exactly like that. People came to try it and stayed a good deal longer than planned. In the Cabrio next to it, some even ended up lying down. We have the photos.

Keiseki can be ordered now, with delivery from February 1, 2027.

Pantagruel Halo

A halo is the ring of light that sometimes appears around the sun or the moon. This one hangs above your table.

Table, shade and light in one piece: the Pantagruel picnic table with a circular canopy above it, curtains if you want them, and dimmable LED lighting that runs the full way around.

Nothing to open, nothing to close. The canopy is perforated, so air passes through and it stays fresh underneath. UV does not get through. Rain does, because it stays a parasol and not an umbrella.

When the sun is low, one curtain is enough to keep everyone at the table out of it. Hang several and put the whole thing indoors, and you have a room within a room.

Order Halo now for delivery from March 1, 2027.

Fakewood

At the fair, Fakewood was on the Pantagruel Halo. Just about everyone who walked past thought it was wood. Including the people who touched it, because the grain really is in there.

You only notice the difference when something falls over. A Tremist, for instance, our own beer, and it was poured generously that week. On wood that could be a stain. On Fakewood that is a cloth.

No sandpaper, no oil, no worries. And fifteen years of warranty, for anyone who does not take our word for it.

Fakewood will be available on Pantagruel, Manille, Anker, Gargantua and Hopper. Delivery from March 1, 2027.

This stand would not have happened without the beautiful rugs by Moooi Carpets, the stunning lights by Brokis and the lovely curtains by Verilin. And thank you to everyone who dropped by! We had a blast!
