Repair your Gargantua
Shit happens. Sometimes a wooden plank breaks, dies or goes south.
Hey! You don’t need to be an engineer to understand our products and you don’t even need to be great at DIY to replace a part. Do make sure that the damage can't be repaired by simply sanding the wood. If that’s not possible, we're here to help you replace a bench plank or tabletop plank of your Gargantua picnic table.
Refurbishing a Gargantua bench slat
Very rarely (+/- 20 min)
Make sure that the damage can't be repaired by simply sanding the wood. If that’s not possible, follow the steps below to replace a bench slat at the Gargantua picnic table.
Instructions
Follow the instructions below or in the video above
- Demount the bench from the table
- Take out the damaged slat
- Place the new slat, nicely centered
- Put a piece of tape on the drill at 15 mm from the tip. This will indicate how deep you can drill
- Drill the holes 15 mm deep
- Screw in the new screws
- Caution! Don't tighten it too much, the screw should hug the frame softly
You just DIY-fixed your table! There may be a color difference with other planks, but this will fade over time when the furniture is outdoors.
Tools
These are the tools you need
- New bench slat
- Electric screwdriver
- Drill with diameter 3 mm
- New screws
- Tape
- Ruler
Refurbishing a Gargantua tabletop segment
Very rarely (+/- 35 min)
Make sure that the damage can't be repaired by simply sanding the wood. If that’s not possible, follow the steps below to replace a tabletop segment at the Gargantua picnic table.
Instructions
Follow the instructions below or in the video above
- Demount the bench from the table
- Take out the damaged segment
- Place the new segment
- Fix the segment with clamps
- Add a piece of cardboard to prevent scratching
- Pencil the drilling holes in the new segment
- Loosen the clamps and take the new segment out of the table
- Put a piece of tape on the drill at 25 mm from the tip
This will indicate how deep you can drill - Drill the holes 25 mm deep
- Place the new segment again and fix it with the clamps
- Screw in the new screws with the torque set on 7
Caution! Don't tighten it too much, the screws should hug the center plate
There may be a color difference with other planks, but this will fade over time when the furniture is outdoors.
You are ready to admire your work.

- New tabletop segment
- New screws
- 2 pieces of cardboard
- 2 clamps
- Tape
- Electric screwdriver with Phillips bit
- Drill with a diameter of 3 mm
- Pencil
- Ruler

Wood gradually becomes rougher and starts to turn gray as a consequence of exposure to the sun and rain. We strongly advise treating your Gargantua with our Wood Protector to keep the planks stable and to keep stains from penetrating the wood. It is best to repeat this treatment yearly.
