Every year, June 18 marks International Picnic Day, a holiday that we like to celebrate to the fullest! At Extremis, we encourage each opportunity to enjoy the beauty of being outside in good company! So let’s get started celebrating this day – with a picnic!
Life is no picnic – but today it is!
How to celebrate?
Let’s admit, what holiday is better than one centered around eating and sharing food in nature? So, pack your picnic basket, hop onto your bike, head to the park to enjoy an outdoor meal with your friends, and celebrate this unofficial holiday.
What do you need to host a pleasant picnic? Well, it’s not the first time we host a picnic, and we’re glad to share our picnic knowledge! So follow these 5 tips for your perfect picnic!
1. The perfect picnic spot
Find yourself a nice place surrounded by nature, this could be the park, your balcony, a public space or just on the lawn. What’s important is that you feel free and relaxed, so put the dishes and laundry out of sight for a while!
Although many would opt for a blanket to sit on, we do prefer a proper table. Pick a table that gathers all the friends you want and sit comfortably without having to worry about ants crawling up your legs!
2. Fun food and tasty drinks
Secondly, of course, the food! Show off your culinary art and share the best recipes. Important is to prepare things ahead that will still taste great when you’re ready to eat. In need of some inspiration? Here are some recipes we’re big on!
Some guacamole, figs, and goat cheese on a French baguette. We presented this delicious sandwich on an extra-long tapas board, the perfect shared dish!
Who doesn’t like a burger? Add the toppings to your liking - we had guacamole, salad, and a beef patty - and secure everything with a skewer or a toothpick. Pro-tip, don’t throw away the toothpicks, but use them to pick the olives!
Veggies to dip
Sliced carrots and cucumbers are healthy and refreshing snacks. Instead of making a mess with hummus and cocktail sauce, add your sauce to a jar and add the veggies. Put your pretty, messy-free jar on the table, just like that!
Some other dishes we put on the table were couscous salad, quiche, mini pizzas, and homemade lemonade. Obviously, we also had dessert, some fresh fruit, muffins, and delicious pancake skewers put a smile on everybody’s face!
3. Let’s play a game
It’s not all food and drinks, stretch your legs and play a game! Have a water fight, a dance-off, or play some Kubb as we did! May the best team win…
4. Sweet music
To get in that sweet, sultry, summer picnic mood, put some music on. We’ve made the perfect picnic playlist, so you can put your phone aside during the picnic. Find 'Picnic Pleasures' op Spotify on Spotify and enjoy our 100 favorite picnic tunes!
5. Share the vibe
Share your picnic with the world and inspire others to head outside for the day! Don't forget to tag and mention #extremis, we're curious to see how you spend your International Picnic Day!
