Creating an outdoor experience at work
With both an indoor and outdoor theater, a hilltop viewpoint, water features, indoor and roof gardens, sports facilities, and a restaurant with fresh food, AFAS sure knows how to spoil the staff. The main goal? Making sure that all 600 employees and more than 1.000 yearly apprentices feel at home, with their wellbeing as the most important aspect. The many outdoor gardens are fully equipped with Extremis furniture to offer places to eat, sit, meet, relax, rest, and take work outdoors. "Bringing together functionality, durability, and esthetics, Extremis is a great asset", explains landscape architect Bart Hoes.
Good and honest wood
It’s one thing to use natural resources such as wood, but it’s another to use good and honest wood. That’s why most of the wood that we use at Extremis is PEFC-certified. This means that our wood originates from sustainably-managed forests and that each step of the wood-chain is checked both on a social, ecological and economical level.
From tree to table
What is the most sustainable table? No table at all, of course. And while we love our customers, we don't want to see them back every five years for a new table. In our minds, this is true sustainability. For this reason, we went to the ends of the earth to find the best woods for our collection. Learn about the journey of our woods, from tree to table.
Fall into fabrics
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The last leaves are falling, cold winds are howling. It’s beginning to look a lot…. like….winter. Have you prepared the outdoor terrace for winter by storing away a mess of sofa cushions? Did you apply ugly covers to your chairs or lug heavy picnic tables to the storage shed? If so, what a pity. Next time, consider materials actually made for….the outdoors. Furniture has a big job with Mother Nature as boss and these three Extremis insights might call into question everything you previously knew about outdoor furniture. Ready for some fun facts?
