Eeeek!… It's still alive
Wood is a living material. In spite of the superior quality provided by our varieties of wood, it constantly has to adapt to extreme changes in temperature and humidity. So, you shouldn’t expect wood to stay perfectly smooth for years without any maintenance just as you don’t expect your teeth to stay white without brushing them!
At Extremis, we don’t make false promises. What you see is what you get. Constant changes in temperature and humidity create internal stresses and warp wood. This warping leads to cracks appearing in the wood among other things. Its colour and structure may also change. These are typical characteristics of wood which you accept when you choose this material. We deliver the wooden parts of our products untreated. Exposure to sun and rain will gradually change their colour to silvery grey, and also roughen the surface. We highly recommend that you regularly apply wood oil to protect your wood from stains and to slow down the roughening process. Despite these downsides, our wood also comes with some great characteristics: producing wooden parts consumes 60 times less energy than steel parts, it's extremely durable – when regularly sanded and oiled, our outdoor patio tables comfortably reach the age of 20, you can barely see dust or dirt on the surface, and it looks warm and feels comfortable to touch.
It's all up to you!
